Nearly 1,200 primary care providers across the state have been trained to deliver oral health preventive care during well-child checks.

It takes less than a minute to conduct a risk assessment and screen for dental disease. Oral health tips can be easily woven into anticipatory guidance regarding obesity prevention. Fluoride varnish is typically applied by nurses or medical assistants before or after immunizations.

Continuing Medical Education (CME)

The training includes lunch and only takes about 90 minutes. The complimentary in-office CME course addresses:

• Dental disease and impact on families and communities
• The link between oral health and total health
• Providing oral health education and anticipatory guidance to clients and families
• Hands-on practice applying fluoride varnish (and how to bill for this service)
• Referring children to dental care
